Andrew & Courtney’s wedding at Rockwell on the River
DETAILS
When — September 2022
Where —Rockwell on the River
Getting ready at TheWit
Courtney and Andrew started their day getting ready at TheWit hotel. It’s located in Chicago’s loop with stunning views in the heart of the city. Courtney and the girls started the morning with hair and makeup while they sipped mimosas in their matching robes. The vibe was so fun in the room! After she got her hair and makeup done, Courtney got into her dress as her mom helped with final details including a bracelet handed down from her grandmother. Andrew and the guys were only a few floors down getting ready. Their morning was chill and filled with laughs and fun while taking photos.
First looks
Courtney and Andrew planned to do a first look with their in-laws. It was such a touching moment when Andrew’s parents saw Courtney for the first time. Courtney even gave them a handwritten card expressing how thankful, excited, and honored she is to soon be a part of the family.
After the first look with the parents we headed down to Chicago’s River walk to set up for a first look for the couple. We found a great spot that had minimal traffic and a background mixed with lush vines and cityscapes. You should have seen the way Andrew’s eye lit up when he saw Courtney. After they had a moment together we walked along the riverwalk making our way to the Wrigley Building to meet the rest of the wedding party for photos!
Wrigley Building
Once we got to the Wrigley Building we met up the rest of the wedding party. The Wrigley Building is such an iconic spot in Chicago. There is a great landing that outlooks the Chicago river, nestled between skyscrapers and the city streets. The Wrigley Building is also accented with beautiful gold trim and doors making for an elegant background.
North Avenue Beach
Once we got the shots we wanted we then made our way to North Avenue Beach for some skyline photos. We did engagement photos here and they simply loved the vantage point. North Avenue Beach has this pier that spirals out into the lake letting you get face to face with the skyline. This is a popular spot for proposals as well! After some shots there we made our way to the venue to get ready for the ceremony.
Rockwell On the River
This was my first time shooting at Rockwell on the River and let me tell you it’s an awesome spot. I love that the venue can accommodate space for a ceremony and reception. The ceremony space was lined with rows of chairs against a tapestry backdrop surrounding the ceremony space. There was plenall of their guests and for us to maneuver around to get those must have shots! The venue has a cool City vibe with open brick and talllllll open ceilings. During cocktail hour the venue has a great back patio that guests can enjoy. Warm glowing string lighting throughout the space makes it feel cozy and adds to the ambiance.
For the reception they opened up the cocktail hour space to allow guests to be seated before the newlyweds made their entrance. I loved this venue for how versatile the layouts can be and how you can direct the flow of the night. Again a great space with lots of room making it a breeze for the videographer and I to get the shots we needed.
